Firearms in Multimedia Evidence
Analysis of Firearms in Video and Still Images:
- Enhancement and analysis of a video or image to determine if an object is a firearm or something else (such as a cell phone)
- Identification of the make and model of a firearm visible in a video or image
- Analysis of audio of gunshots heard within a video recording
- Determination of numbers of shots fired during a shooting incident
- Analysis of which person fired which shots and at what time indexes
This enhanced video sequence from surveillance video confirms that the subject is holding an actual object and that the viewable object is not a compression artifact. This video offers strong support that the object may be a firearm.
Analysis of Firearms in Audio Recordings:
- Determine whether or not audio is actual gunshots or something else (car backfire, door slamming, etc.)
- Determine number of shots fired and by which shooter
- Determine which shots may be closer or further away from the recording device
Here we see a comparison between gunfire from an AR-15 firing 5.56x45mm cartridges and the sound of a Ferrari with the top down at 90mph. (Yes, I had to spend a grueling day riding around in that Ferrari).
